Nigerian disc jockey, Obianuju Catherine Udeh, popularly known as DJ Switch, has reacted to the report by the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the shooting incident that occurred last year during the #EndSARS protest at the Lekki Toll Gate.
The #EndSARS protest was held across the country against the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force over cases of brutality, illegal arrest, extortion, extra-judicial killings, among others.
KanyiDaily had reported how soldiers opened fire on #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate, on Tuesday night, October 21, 2020, killing an unconfirmed number of persons and injuring so many others.
DJ Switch, who was at the scene of the incident last year, took to her Instagram page and did a live coverage that showed unarmed #EndSARS protesters covered in a pool of blood as the Nigerian Army and Police opened fire on them at the Lekki Toll Gate.
DJ Switch later cried out on social media that her life was under serious threats after she spoke out on what transpired at Lekki tollgate, forcing her to flee the country.
During the first anniversary of the Lekki Massacre, the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed mocked DJ Switch and described her as ‘Run-way DJ‘, threatening to prosecute her for propagating bad news about the country.
Mohammed also described the shooting incident at the tollgate as a “phantom massacre”, saying that most of the claims of killings were false and misleading, as those who made the claims of losing people were yet to show up and give evidence a year after such allegations.
However, according to the report submitted by the Lagos Judicial Panel on Monday, November 15, 2021, nine protesters were confirmed dead while four others were presumed dead.
The report listed 48 names as those who were casualties of the Lekki shooting incident. Among which, 24 sustained gunshot injuries, while 15 others were assaulted by soldiers and police.
The panel, headed by Justice Doris Okuwobi, also noted that 96 other corpses were presented by a Forensic Pathologist of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Professor John Obafunwa.
DJ Switch Reacts To Report on Lekki Massacre
Reacting to the report on her Twitter page, DJ Switch said the Nigerian Government shattered so many lives and tried to destroy her life for what they desperately wanted to cover up.
She wrote: “Shattered so many life, tried to destroy mine. Only for what you desperately tried to hide to be made public…by you! The truth needs no defence!”
KanyiDaily recalls that DJ Switch had also described Nigerian soldiers as mindless zombies who follow idiotic orders without question.
