The Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Salihu Lukman has resigned from his position amid the controversy surrounding the planned convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Salihu Lukman Resigns As APC Governors Forum DG
Lukman was said to have resigned on Monday, January 17, after some APC governors called for his resignation during a meeting at the federal capital territory (FCT) on Sunday night.
It was gathered that while the majority of the governors wanted him to remain as the forum’s DG, a few others insisted he must go for being too vocal.
Sources close to Lukman said that he has already submitted his letter of resignation to the PGF Chairman and Kebbi State Governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu.
After the meeting, Bagudu told reporters that the party’s convention would be held in February, adding that the national caretaker committee of the party led by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, is the appropriate organ to announce the date for the convention.
He said, “We are one group of stakeholders in the party and our party respects institutions. The appropriate organ of the party that will announce a date for the national convention is the CECPC.
“We discussed our upcoming convention which you may recall I had cause to address the press after we visited President Buhari in November 2021 where the president and the party agreed that the convention would take place in February.”
When contacted, Lukman who had insisted that the Buni-led panel must not stay beyond February, did not respond to the calls, and a text message sent to him at the time of filing this report.
KanyiDaily had also reported how Senator Uba Sani met APC women leaders to strengthen women’s political participation in Kaduna Central.
