Some officers of Rivers State Police Command have been detained by gunmen suspected to be cultists who reportedly broke into the Okrika Police Division and freed detainees.
According to Punch, a police officer confirmed that more 10 suspects in detention, including some hardened criminals, were set free by the gunmen who invaded the police station at about 2 am on Tuesday.
The source said, “The incident has been reported to the Force Headquarters in Abuja as well as the state Police Command, Moscow Road, in Port Harcourt.
“The hoodlums broke the padlock of the cell, and also opened the backdoor of the cell where the detainees escaped from around 2am on Tuesday. The policemen on duty at the time the cell break occurred will account for the incident.”
