The National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu has vowed that he would never to step on toes of President Muhamadu Buhari if he succeeds him in 2023.
Tinubu Solicit For Support
The former Lagos governor spoke on Wednesday while making his case for the presidential ticket of the ruling party during a meeting with APC senators in Abuja.
According to him, his ambition is not blind to the extent that he will step on Buhari’s toes but would rather step into his shoes as the next president of Nigeria in 2023.
The APC leader asked the lawmakers to back his ambition due to his requisite experience and capacity, having served as a former state governor and as a Senator.
Tinubu said, “I came for your counsel, partnership and support. I believe that you can back me for my lifetime ambition.
“Nigeria has come to a point where we need a change of baton. Mr President is rounding up his second term.
“I told Mr President that my ambition is not blind to the extent that I will step on his toes. I just want to step into his shoes and not on his toes.
“I want to beg you to look at my capacity and my experience. I am perhaps the only one who has been in the senate, who has been a governor and aspiring to become president.”
Tinubu called on the senators to support him to realise “the aspiration of my lifetime ambition”.
Commenting, Senate President Ahmad Lawan said the achievements of the APC since becoming the ruling party will play a key role in the 2023 general election.
Lawan said the election is “going to be defined by what we do between now and then — and what we have done between 2015 and now. That means we have to remain focused as an administration and united as a party.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Bola Tinubu recently replied those expressing concerns about his health challenges, insisting that he is psychologically fit to contest the presidency in 2023.
