Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old lady, Toyosi Adesegun, who raised a false alarm on Twitter that she was being kidnapped and raped.

KanyiDaily had reported how the young lady took to her Twitter page on Thursday morning to cry out for help that she was being abducted and raped in a house located at Akoka.
After causing a barrage of reactions and outrage, Toyosi shared another post where she confirmed that she was perfectly okay, admitting that she raised the false alarm purposely.
In a statement issued on his Twitter page, SP Benjamin Hundeyi confirmed that Toyosi presented herself for questioning at the Bariga Police Station following the outrage among Nigerians over her action.
Hundeyi said the lady had “jokingly” raised the false alarm after she was restrained from leaving the apartment of three young men – Olamilekan Faruk, Ayanfe Ayinde, and Olusola Onipede – who she constantly visits.
The police spokesman said the three men will be arraigned for wrongful restraint, while Toyosi will be arraigned for giving false information.
The statement reads, “The lady has voluntarily presented herself at the police station. Questioning is ongoing. We will keep you updated.
“After a careful and extensive investigation, it is revealed that 20-year-old Toyosi Adesegun, female, is a regular visitor to Olamilekan Faruk, Ayanfe Ayinde and Olusola Onipede, all male of 78 Obayan Street Akoka.
“This morning, she was restrained from leaving the apartment by the young men. Toyosi threatened to tweet what she tweeted if she was not allowed to leave. The young men called her bluff and she tweeted.
“Based on the foregoing, the three men will be arraigned for wrongful restraint while Toyosi will be arraigned for giving false information.”

This comes a few weeks after a Nigerian lady, Dr Chinelo Megafu died of gunshot wounds after she raised an alarm on Twitter that they were being attacked by bandits on an Abuja-Kaduna train.
