Chief Whip of the House of Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has declared his decision to no longer contest for the presidential seat.
The Senator made this disclosure via a statement on Monday, May 9 where he stated that his reason for backing off is the inability of the two major parties in Nigeria to zone the presidential ticket to the South East.
He went on to urge his friends, allies, and supporters in APC to back Senate president, Ahmad Lawan for the APC presidential ticket.
Orji Uzor was a presidential aspirant under the All Progressive Congress (APC)
The statement reads:
“Since there is no zoning and the contest is open to all Nigerians , I officially withdraw from presidential contest in 2023. I have also picked ticket to run for Abia North Senatorial zone and to complete the good work I started in Abia North .
“I urge all my friends , allies and supporters in the APC to toe the line of justice by supporting Senator Ahmad Lawan , a North Easterner for the presidential ticket of the APC”
