Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose led three governors on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to meet Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
APC Governors Meet Wike
The governors — Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos — are at the residence of the Rivers governor, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Although the details of the closed-door meeting is yet to be revealed, it is believed to be connected with the PDP crisis resulting from the nomination of Atiku Abubakar as the candidate of the main opposition party for the 2023 presidential.
KanyiDaily had reported that there are speculations that Wike will defect from PDP after losing the party’s presidential and vice-presidential tickets.
While the Rivers governor had lost the PDP presidential ticket to Atiku Abubakar, he was said to be the preferred candidate chosen by a panel for the vice-presidential slot.
However, Atiku had eventually chosen Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate — a development which did not sit well with some PDP members.
Also, recently, there had been rumours over Wike meeting Bola Tinubu, APC presidential candidate, when the former was in France on vacation.
However, Tinubu’s media office had denied the claim, saying while the APC presidential candidate has nothing against Wike, no meeting of the sort happened.
This comes a few days after Governor Nyesom Wike ruled out a one-on-one meeting Atiku Abubakar to resolve the crisis rocking the PDP over the choice of running mate.
