Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje says that the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has agreed to pick a Muslim as running mate.
Ganduje Says Tinubu Would Run Muslim-Muslim Ticket
Since parties concluded their presidential primaries, there have been concerns and arguments over the alleged plan by the APC flagbearer, who is a Muslim, to field a running mate who is of the same religion as him.
Amid the concerns, Tinubu had picked Kabir Ibrahim Masari, a Katsina politician, as a placeholder in order to meet up with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline.
During a prayer session with clerics on Friday ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Ganduje said Tinubu was advised to pick a Muslim running mate.
He said, “We have advised him (Tinubu) to pick a Muslim deputy and he has agreed. A Muslim-Muslim ticket is a reality. It is not something new in Nigeria.”
The governor also urged the clerics to pray fervently for Tinubu to emerge victorious in next year’s presidential election.
KanyiDaily recalls that Northern Elders had backed the Muslim-Muslim ticked, claiming that “ordinary” Nigerians no longer care about the religious background of their political leaders.
