President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to confirm the appointment of Olukayode Ariwoola as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
Buhari Seeks Confirmation Of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola
The president’s request was contained in a letter read by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday.
In the letter, Buhari is asking the lawmakers to speedily confirm the appointment in pursuant to Section One (1) of the Constitution of Nigeria.
The letter reads, “Pursuant to Section 231(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I forward for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
“While I hope that the submission will be considered in the usual expeditious manner, please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration.”
KanyiDaily recalls that on June 24, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola was sworn in as the acting CJN following the resignation of Justice Muhammad Tanko on health grounds.
