Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi on Wednesday, called on his counterparts in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and others to put their campaigns on hold and join him to help victims of flood across the country.
Obi Calls On Tinubu, Atiku, Others To Suspend Campaigns Over Flood
Obi made the call while addressing journalists after he visited Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State at his Abuja private residence where he had gone to discuss modalities on his planned visit to flood sites in Benue and other states.
According to him, he expected other presidential candidates to show concern for the plight of victims of flooding, considering the millions spent on nomination forms alone.
Obi is contesting for presidency alongside Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party, amongst others.
Nigeria is currently witnessing its worst flood in over a decade. Reports say over 1.4 million people have been displaced, with 500 hundred reported to have died and thousands injured.
Houses and farmlands have been submerged in Lagos, Yobe, Borno, Taraba, Adamawa, Edo, Delta, Kogi, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Ebonyi, Anambra, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Imo, Abia States, and the Federal Capital Territory.
Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that Peter Obi denied ordering SSS to arrest and detain Nasir El-Rufai in Anambra state when he was governor.
