Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has publicly endorsed the re-election bid of his Lagos counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nyesom Wike Declares Support For Sanwo-Olu
Wike, who has been in battle with the leadership of his political party, PDP, since the emergency of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, declared his support for Sanwo-Olu during the ongoing 22nd National Women’s Conference (NWC) in Lagos.
The annual conference with the theme: ‘Spring Forth, Stand Out,’ is holding at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, and is being organized by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO).
Speaking at the conference, Wike described Sanwo-Olu as “my friend who will be a second-term governor”, adding that his presence at the event is because the Lagos governor is “doing well” for the people of the state.
“If Sanwo-Olu is not doing well, even if he belongs to my party, I won’t come. So, for me, if you are in my party and you are not doing well, you won’t see me.
“If you are not in my party and you are doing well, you will see me and that is what I stand for. And I will not regret to say that I’m in support of you,” Wike said.
The governor acknowledged that the involvement of women in politics and decision-making in Lagos State has made the state a pacesetter in the country.
Wike also announced the donation of N300 million to the COWLSO, saying he was amazed at all the achievements of the committee of wives of Lagos state officials.
He promised that he would encourage his wife to replicate all that he had learned from the conference in his state as well.
“On behalf of the women in Rivers State, my wife, who has extended her greetings, I support this with a sum of N300 million so that you can continue this laudable projects,” he said.
KanyiDaily recalls that Governor Nyesom Wike also stated that any party that is contesting against the ruling APC in Lagos is wasting its time.
