The presidential bid of Peter Obi received a boost as Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Thursday, promised to provide “logistics support” to the Labour Party candidate.
Wike Assures Obi Of ‘Logistics Support’
He also said Obi has all the characteristics to lead Nigeria.
Wike stated this in Port Harcourt, the state capital, at the venue of the Nkpolu-Oroworokwo Flyover inauguration.
“Each time you want to campaign in the state, let me know, all the logistics support, we will give to you,” Wike told Obi.
The former Anambra governor and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed were in the state capital to commission the 9th flyover by the present administration.
Reports say the duo was excitedly received by a large crowd of their supporters known as “Obidients.”
Wike, Atiku, PDP Feud
Wike and four other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have refused to support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar over the refusal of Iyorchia Ayu to resign as national chairman of the party for a southerner.
The five governors led by Wike now known as the G5 say the presidential candidate and national chairman of the party can not come from the same region – North.
Atiku hails from Adamawa -North-East while Ayu comes from Benue – North Central.
It is not clear whether the five governors will work or support Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) or Obi for the presidency.
According to Wike, although he knew the humiliation Obi suffered before he left the PDP for the Labour Party, he won’t leave the party but chase out the “armed robbers”.
“I know the humiliation you suffered. Nobody will hear what you pass through and stay in the party but I will not leave. I will stay and fight.
“I won’t leave this house. I will never allow armed robbers to take over this house. I will stay and chase away armed robbers.
“So, thank God because if you have not left, you would not have realised your ambition to be able to save Nigeria,” Wike told Obi.
Recall that Obi left the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in October 2014 and joined the PDP. He was the running mate to PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 general elections.
He, however, dumped the PDP in early 2022 and joined the LP where he clinched the party’s 2023 presidential ticket.
Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that Wike had apologised to the former national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole for supporting Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki for his reelection.
