Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of Ifeanyi Adeleke, the three-year-old son of popular Nigerian singer, Davido and his fiancee, Chioma Rowland.
Davido Loses His Son Ifeanyi
Ifeanyi, who was born on October 20, 2019, reportedly died by drowning on Monday, October 31, 2022, a few days after his third birthday on October 20.
Although Ifeanyi’s death has not been confirmed by any family member as of the time of filing this report, unconfirmed reports hinted that the boy drowned in a swimming pool at his father’s residence in the Banana Island area of Lagos State.
A source said Ifeanyi was underwater for a very long time before being spotted and pulled out from the swimming pool, and rushed to a hospital in the Lekki area of the state, where he was confirmed dead by one of the doctors on duty.
A family source said Davido and Chioma had traveled to Ibadan yesterday to attend a family gathering and had left Ifeanyi with a female domestic assistant.
Police Confirms Ifeanyi’s Death
On Tuesday, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident, saying eight domestic workers were brought in for questioning in connection with the tragic incident .
Hundeyin, who confirmed the development to PUNCH, said the domestic workers’ narrations would assist the police in ascertaining the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
Hundeyin noted that anyone not found culpable would be released immediately, adding the ones found culpable of negligence would be held back to assist the command in the ongoing investigation.
He said, “His (Ifeanyi’s) death is confirmed. His (Davido’s) domestic workers have been brought in for questioning and anybody found not culpable will be allowed to go immediately.
“About eight of them were brought in to narrate their version of what happened to assist us in getting what really happened.
“At the end of their narrations, whoever that is found not guilty of negligence or not culpable in anyway will be allowed to go.
“Anybody found culpable will stay back to assist us in further investigation. The domestic workers are about eight that were brought in.”
Davido and Chioma’s family are yet to make any official statement about Ifeanyi’s death, but many celebrities have taken to their social media pages to mourn the three-year-old boy.
This comes a few months after Davido took to social media to show off the Audemars Piguet watch which was reportedly worth $320,000 (N133 million) he bought for his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.
