Nigerian singer, Asake has taken to social media to mourn a 33-year-old Nigerian woman, Rebecca Ikumelo, who died after a stampede at his concert at the Brixton O2 Academy, London, United Kingdom.

In a statement shared on his Instagram page, the singer sent his condolence to the family of the deceased, saying he was devastated by her passing as he never imagined such a thing would happen.

Asake added that he was awaiting reports from the police and the management of the venue on what exactly caused the disruption and stampede. He also urged members of the public that had relevant information as to what happened to speak up to the right authorities.

“I am devastated by the news that Rebecca Ikumelo who was in a critical condition since Thursday has sadly passed away.

“My sincerest condolences to her loved ones at this time. Let us please keep her family in our prayers. I have spoken to them and will continue to do so.

“I am overwhelmed with grief and could never have imagined anything like this happening.

“My team and I are still awaiting the full debrief back from the venue management and the Police to determine what exactly led to all the disruption caused and ultimately to Rebecca’s passing.

“If you have any relevant information relating to this please do reach out to the Metropolitan Police,” the singer wrote.

KanyiDaily had reported how Asake’s Brixton concert was canceled part-way after the crowd breached the doors and security, leaving some of the fans injured.
