Celebrity kidnapper, John Ewa popularly known on social media as John Lyon, and his gang leader, Emmanuel Charles Angase on Wednesday, November 30th, arraigned before a High Court sitting in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital.
Court Remands John Lyon In Prison After He Pleaded Not Guilty
The duo was arraigned by the Bayelsa State Police Command.
Lyon and Angase pleaded not guilty to the 14 count charges of kidnapping, armed robbery, and criminal felony preferred against them.
Given the plea, the prosecution counsel, Bayelsa State Director of Public Prosecution, Apulu Iyabosa said the briefs of the case were served on the defendant’s counsel and prayed for a trial date.
The Counsel to the defendants, Francis Gbaionna said he has not received the statement of charges from the prosecution lawyer, adding that he has no objection to the application.
Ruling on the matter, the presiding Judge of the Court, Justice I Eradiri ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Okaka Correctional Centre and adjourned the case for hearing on the 5th and 21st of December, 2022.
Lyon is known for his flamboyant lifestyle on social media.
Two months ago Nigerians were shocked to hear that the 30-year-old social media celebrity confessed to being involved in two kidnap incidents.
He said that after the operation they gave him N1.5 million to take care of the medical bills of his mother who was sick and in the hospital.
Lyon, who is from the Akwagom-Eruan Community in Boki LGA of Cross River State, was arrested alongside Angase.
In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that former Kaduna State Senator, Shehu Sani declared the student of Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State, Aminu Adamu Mohammed the “Man of the year 2022.”
Recall that Aminu Adamu Mohammed was arrested over a Twitter post he made against Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, where he wrote in the Hausa language “Su mama Anchi Kudin Talakawa an koshi”, meaning “Mama has fed fat on poor people’s money”.
