Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the just conducted presidential election, Peter Obi has reacted to the news of a train accident involving a BRT staff bus which killed six persons on Thursday.
The passenger train crushed the BRT staff bus at the PWD, Ikeja area of the state on Thursday morning.
Taking to his official Twitter handle on Thursday evening, Peter Obi said he received the “depressing” news of the accident where precious lives were lost and several people wounded.
Peter Obi said the country must at all costs, guard against such accidents, adding that the lives lost to such “avoidable” incidents are heartbreaking.
He called on relevant agencies and authorities to stand up to their responsibilities.
The former Anambra governor commiserated with the bereaved families and prayed for a quick recovery for the injured.
He wrote, “I received the depressing news of a train collision with a BRT Staff Bus in Ikeja today, where precious lives were lost and several people wounded.
“We must at all costs, guard against accidents like this. The many lives lost to such avoidable incidents are heartbreaking. The relevant agencies and authorities must stand up to their responsibilities.
“I commiserate with the bereaved families and hope the critically injured are given good medical care for quick recovery. We are united with you in this time of sorrow and pain. May God keep us all safe as we go about our daily lives.”

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that a Magistrates’ court sitting in Owerri, the Imo State capital has remanded the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Gerald Irona, in prison custody.
The court gave the order for Gerald Irona’s remand on Thursday.
