Former spokesman of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, is dead.
It was gathered that Maigida slumped and died on Sunday in Abuja.
A family source, who confirmed the development to Daily Trust, said the senior military officer was hale and hearty before the sad incident.
NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Ayodele Famuyiwa, also confirmed the development, describing the death as shocking and unfortunate.
Wapkerem Maigida assumed duty as the NAF spokesman in January and had served for barely two months before he was redeployed to a new posting.
Before his appointment, he was the commander of 551 NAF station in Jos and also a former aide-de-camp to Jonah Wuyep, former chief of the air staff.
While assuming office on January 6, he had promised to use the media space to bring the narrative of NAF in enhancing national security architecture in the country.
Mourning the deceased through his Facebook page, Sadeeq Shehu, former NAF director of PR said: “I join the Chief of the Air Staff, officers and men and DOPRI personnel to mourn the death of Air Commodore Wap Maigida. A dependable subordinate to his superiors and a compassionate superior to his subordinates.”
Maigida, who was the Commander of 551 NAF Station in Jos, took over from Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, who also replaced him in Jos.
He had served as Acting Director, Defence Information at the Defence Headquarters before his posting to Jos in 2022.
