The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday evening declared incumbent Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri as the winner of the Adamawa State Governorship Election.
The Returning Officer, Muhammed Melee, declared Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the poll as he polled 430,861 votes to defeat his major contender, Aisha Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 398,788.
This declaration brings to an end the controversies that greeted the supplementary election held last Saturday, April 15.
INEC had earlier reopened the collation centre for the supplementary election results.
The supplementary election held in the state on Saturday, April 15, after the election of March 18 was declared inconclusive by INEC, following certain irregularities.
The collation exercise in the state was stopped on Sunday after the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Ari, declared the candidate of the APC, Binani, the winner of the election, which led the commission on Monday suspended Hudu and asked him to stay away from the office.
The governor-elect, in his acceptance speech after being declared winner, said he was “humbled the more.”
He congratulated his co-contenders for their struggles in the guber poll.
Fintiri condemned the action of Hudu who had earlier declared Binani as the winner of the election.
While saying the action of the REC “fell below expectation,” he thanked the people of Adamawa “for voting for continuity.”
In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja refused to hear the ex-parte motion filed by Senator Binani.
The court refused to entertain Binani’s suit on Tuesday.
Binani and the APC, in the motion ex-parte marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/510/2023, had sued the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Governor Fintiri, as 1st, 2nd and 3rd respondents respectively.
Binani, through her lawyer, Hussaini Zakariyau, SAN, had sought a judicial review of the administrative decision of INEC on April 16 in respect of her declaration as the winner of the governorship election held on March 18 and the supplementary poll of April 15.
