Chelsea Football Club has officially announced the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as their new permanent head coach.
Mauricio Pochettino has signed a two-year deal with the option for an additional year, giving him the opportunity to make a significant impact on the team’s future.
Pochettino will bring with him his trusted backroom team members, including Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, goalkeeper coach Toni Jimenez, and his son and fitness coach, Sebastiano Pochettino.
Chelsea announced the arrival of the new coach via its Twitter page on Monday, May 29, 2023 emphasizing Pochettino’s experience, high standards of excellence, leadership qualities, and character that align with Chelsea’s vision.
In a statement, the club expressed confidence in Pochettino’s winning mindset, his extensive coaching background across various leagues and languages, as well as his commitment to player development.
The statement reads, “Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward.
“He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate.”
Club co-owners Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, Jose E. Feliciano, Mark Walter, and Hansjorg Wyss released a joint statement, expressing their pride in the diligent and thoughtful selection process conducted by the sporting team.
They expressed their delight in welcoming Mauricio Pochettino to Chelsea, highlighting his world-class coaching abilities and outstanding track record.
“The sporting team conducted a diligent and thoughtful process that the Board is proud of. We are delighted that Mauricio will be joining Chelsea.
“Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record. We are all looking forward to having him on board.” the statement reads.
Pochettino, who had been without a managerial role since his departure from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) last summer, emerged as the leading candidate for the position after Julian Nagelsmann withdrew from contention.
His impressive credentials resonated with owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, marking their fourth managerial appointment since taking charge of the club.
KanyiDaily recalls that last week, Chelsea’s caretaker manager, Frank Lampard told Mauricio Pochettino that there will be no ‘fast fix’ at the west London club.
