Former US President Jimmy Carter’s family has disclosed that his wife, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, has dementia.
Rosalynn Carter, 95, will continue to live with her husband at their Plains, Georgia home, according to a news release issued on Tuesday, May 30.
“She continues to live happily at home with her husband, enjoying spring in Plains and visits with loved ones,” the family said in a statement posted by the Carter Centre on Tuesday, May 30.

Rosalynn Carter, 95, spent decades pushing to lessen the stigma associated with mental health concerns, according to her family, who hoped that revealing the news of her diagnosis would “increase important conversations at kitchen tables and in doctor’s offices across the country.”
From 1977 through 1981, the Carters presided over the United States. They have four children and have been married since 1946.
Jimmy Carter, 98, has been getting hospice care at home rather than medical intervention, according to the Carter Centre in February. He has lived the longest after leaving the White House of any president in American history.
