The factional national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Lamidi Apapa has tackled the president candidate of the party, Peter Obi, over the crisis engulfing the party.
KanyiDaily recalls that yesterday, Lamidi Apapa clashed with the Director General of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign council, Akin Osuntokun, at the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja.
Apapa, who continues to insist that he’s the authentic national chairman of the party, had a bitter exchanges with Osuntokun inside the tribunal over sitting arrangements, and was booed by LP supporters as he emerged from the tribunal, while his cap was yanked off his head.
Speaking with newsmen after the chaotic court session, Apapa expressed his displeasure with Peter Obi for taking sides with Julius Abure, the LP chairman removed by the court.
He disclosed that members of the presidential campaign group of the party had at a meeting that was held on Tuesday to broker peace among the warring factions, vowed to deal with him should he attend the court session.
“They threatened that if I appear in court that something would happen”, the embattled LP factional chairman added, saying there was no truth in the allegation that he collected N500million to scuttle Obi’s petition against the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Apapa said, “On the allegation of bribe taking, it’s not true. If you have your evidence to prove, bring your evidence that I have collected money or we’ve collected money from anybody. It’s absolutely untrue.
He stated that Obi has been deceptive thus far and vowed to expose the former Anambra governor. However, Apapa failed to specify the nature of the revelation concerning the LP’s standard-bearer.
While branding Obi “a liar” for saying that he does not know him, Apapa said he actively participated in all the campaigns the party held before the presidential election and also flew back to Abuja with him in the same aircraft on one of the occasions.
He said, “On Peter Obi taking sides, I don’t want to expose him, but he deserves to be exposed. Sometime ago, in one of the interviews he (Obi) granted, he said he does not know me at all.
“I want to tell the whole world that he is a liar. I have been in the party for over 21 years while he is not even up to one year in the party.
“I have been trying to cover him, but he does not deserve it. The reasons are this: This is a man, during his primary in Asaba, I did the opening prayer. And I was not a young officer. I was the deputy national chairman of the party. I have been 21 years in this party. I have held a lot of positions in this party to the level I am today.
“Obi’s first campaign started in Benin. I was in Benin with him. And we used his aircraft from Benin back to Abuja–chartered plane. Not only that, when he came to Ekiti (Afe Babalola University), I led the team that hosted him in that campus. We were there for over two hours. I led the team to the palace. And he doesn’t know me?”
“Apart from money, what else does he (Obi) have that I don’t have?,” Apapa queried.
The embattled LP factional chairman accused Obi of refusing to respect the court order that suspended the Julius Abure-led executives of the party.
He concluded his statement by expressing his discontent towards the “young chap” who forcefully removed his cap at the court, directing expletives at him.
KanyiDaily recalls that Lamidi Apapa had claimed that Peter Obi is not qualified to rule Nigeria because the presidential candidate does not respect court order.
