The Adamawa State Police Command says it has arrested a couple identified as Kamal Idris, 24, and Ambasiya Idris, 19, for brutalizing their 11-year-old nephew identified as Fahad Abdulkarim.
The command said the couple was picked up on Friday.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, and posted on its Twitter handle.
The statement said Abdulkarim was placed under the couple’s custody as guardians, after the death of his father.
The spokesperson of the command said, “Cruelty to a child by guardians:- police rescued 11years, old boy. Adamawa state police command, On 12/5/2023, apprehended a couple (Husband and wife), who recklessly tortured an 11 years old Fahad Abdulkarim (Orphan) placed under their custody as guardians, after the death of his father.
“The Suspects (1) Kamal Idris ‘m’ 24years (2) Ambasiya Idris ‘f’ 19years all residents of Wuro Jabbe, Yola South Local Government Area, frequently and willfully tortured the little child, as a result, it creates grievous bodily injury on him.
“The Command upon receiving the report swung into action and luckily rescued the innocent/tortured Child and rushed him to Hospital, now on admission receiving treatment.
“The Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola, frowned at the inhuman treatment meted on the little boy by the guardians who happened to be uncle/aunty to the victim and vowed to prosecute them so as to serve as deterrence to others from doing likewise.”

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that the Osun State Police Command on Saturday asked residents of the state to check at the command headquarters in Osogbo and claim their missing goats which were recovered from two inter-state livestock robbers.
