Billie Eilish, a Grammy winner, has spoken up about her style transformation over the years, replying to critics who labelled her a “sellout” for wearing “feminine” apparel.
The 21-year-old singer used her Instagram Story to respond to online remarks about her clothing.
“I spent the first five years of my career being completely OBLITERATED by you cretins for being boyish and dressing the way I did, and constantly being told I’d be hotter if I acted like a woman.”
“Now when I feel comfortable enough to wear anything remotely feminine or fitting, I CHANGED and am a sellout,” she wrote in the caption of a photo of herself.
“And ‘what happened to her’ ‘OMG it’s not the same Billie she’s just like the rest’ blah blah blah.”
Eilish then referred to the “true idiots” and “bozos.”
“Let women exist!” she continued.
Eilish followed up with additional posts.
“INTERESTING FACT! Did you realize that women have several facets??? Isn’t it shocking? “Women, believe it or not, can be interested in a variety of things,” she wrote.
“Also, femininity does not imply weakness?” omg?! Isn’t that insane? “Who knew?” she continued. “And it’s also totally unheard of and insane to want to express yourself differently at different times.”
In 2021, Eilish informed Elle magazine that she lost 100,000 social media followers after sharing a new look.
“People hold on to these memories and have an attachment,” she told the publication. “But it’s also very dehumanizing.”
Eilish spoke up about her various perceptions of style in September 2021. During a Vogue interview.
“When I was a kid, my favorite thing was big dresses.” “I had so many dresses that I would wear one every day,” the “Lovely” singer explained. “It was really body image that destroyed that s***.” [It’s] why I believe I’ve been dressing this way for years.”
