American rapper, Big Pokey has tragically passed away after collapsing while performing at a show in Beaumont, Texas.
During a Juneteenth-themed event at a local bar on Saturday, the 45-year-old rapper fell backwards on stage, prompting immediate action to rush him to the hospital.
Unfortunately, medical officials later confirmed the untimely demise of the rapper whose real name was Milton Powell.
Video footage of the incident quickly circulated online, capturing the shock and concern expressed by fans as authorities gathered around Big Pokey.
On Sunday, the rapper’s passing was officially announced through a statement shared on his Instagram page.
The statement expressed deep sadness and conveyed Big Pokey’s immense popularity among his family, friends, and loyal fanbase.
It also mentioned that details regarding his celebration of life and public tributes would be provided in due course.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Milton ‘Big Pokey’ Powell. He was well loved by his family, his friends, and his loyal fans,” the statement reads.
“In the coming days, we will release information about his celebration of life and how the public can pay their respect. Big Pokey will forever be ‘The Hardest Pit In The Litter.”
Born as Milton Powell on November 29, 1977, in Houston, Texas, Big Pokey began his rap career in the early 1990s alongside DJ Screw, a prominent American entertainer.
Notably, he featured on DJ Screw’s influential mixtape titled “June 27th Freestyle,” which played a significant role in the development of chopped and screwed hip-hop.
Big Pokey’s contributions to the music industry extended beyond collaborations, as he gained prominence as a founding member of the Screwed Up Click. This influential hip-hop group consisted of talented artists hailing from Houston.
