Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has reportedly escaped an assassination attempt on Wednesday at the Eid praying ground.
According to reports, the incident happened at the Osogbo Eid praying ground, where chaos erupted as a group of hoodlums, allegedly led by some prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), took control of the section reserved for the governor.
The situation quickly escalated, resulting in an assault on Honorable Moruf Gangaria, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing the Osogbo federal constituency in the House of Representatives.
Governor Adeleke and his entourage, the reports say, arrived at the venue amidst the ongoing commotion.
Upon their arrival, however, the governor was surrounded by the hostile group, forcing security personnel to evacuate him from the area swiftly.
The governor’s attempts to reach the designated prayer point were reportedly impeded twice.
Some prominent PDP leaders in Osogbo were said to have been subjected to molestation and physical assault during the unfortunate incident.
