The First Lady of Ekiti State, Olayemi Oyebanji has expressed her support for Damilola Adeparusi, better known as Chef Dammy, who is attempting to break the cooking record set by her colleague, Hilda Baci.
On May 15, 2023, Hilda Baci achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing the previous Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time held by Chef Lata Tondon from Rewa, India in 2019.
The Akwa Ibom chef, who broke Tondon’s record of 87 hours, 45 minutes, cooked for 100 hours and 40 minutes to set a new world record as the first individual in the world to spend such an amount of time cooking.
Although the Guinness World Record is yet to officially confirm Hilda Baci as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon, her remarkable achievement has set a benchmark in the culinary world, inspiring other chefs to either break her record or take on the challenge.
On Friday, June 9, 2023, Chef Damilola Adeparusi kicked off a cook-a-thon attempting to break Hilda’s record by cooking for 120 hours in Oye Local Government Area in Ekiti State.
As of the time of writing this report, Chef Dammy has cooked for over 83 hours and counting, but some Nigerians have called her out for envy, saying she should have waited for Guinness World Records to confirm Hilda’s record.
Ekiti First Lady Celebrates Chef Dammy
Taking to her Twitter page on Monday, Olayemi Oyebanji commended Chef Dammy’s effort while celebrating her courage and determination in undertaking this challenge.
She wrote, ”The last 70 hours have been about Chef Dammy @dammypas, a determined Ekiti undergraduate, who is making a bold attempt to break the Guinness World record for the longest cooking marathon.
“For me, it’s her courage and determination to stand for something positive, using her God-given talent to make a statement.
“Miss Damilola Adeparusi, surely has our love and support as she forges ahead to make this bold statement. I salute your courage, Chef Dammy, for your decision to run your race. Congratulations.”
Chef Dammy is a young and talented chef from Ekiti State, currently pursuing her undergraduate studies at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti.
Meanwhile, a Nigerian businessman has offered to give Chef Dammy N1 million if she immediately calls off the cook-a-thon she embarked on to break Hilda Baci’s cooking record.
