The Kano state government has taken the decision to suspend the monthly deduction of N370 from the salaries and pensions of civil servants and pensioners.
In a circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, to various government institutions, agencies, and parastatals, it was revealed that the suspension is effective immediately and will remain in place until an investigation into the deduction process is concluded.
According to the circular, the deductions were being remitted to Share Benefit Investment Limited, a firm whose involvement raised concerns. The circular stated, “Government has observed with great concern the inappropriate deduction of the sum of N370.00 each from the salaries and pensions of all civil servants and pensioners in the state and afterwards, remitted to Share Benefit Investment Limited.”
In response to the situation, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has authorized the immediate suspension of the deductions and remittances to the said firm. The decision was made to allow for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the improper deductions.
The suspension aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the deduction process, while the investigation seeks to uncover the reasons behind the irregular deductions.
