A 41-year-old manager of SEAP Micro-Finance Bank Saki, Sola Ogungbe, has reportedly taken his own life at his home in Iseyin town, Oyo State.
According to a report by The Nation, Ogungbe resorted to suicide on June 14, 2023, after encountering difficulties in recovering a N1 million loan he had facilitated for certain customers.
The distressing turn of events unfolded when a staff member, concerned about Ogungbe’s absence from work due to the loan default crisis, contacted his wife on Wednesday afternoon. Upon returning home in the evening to discuss the call with her husband, the wife tragically discovered his lifeless body.
A close friend of the deceased, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed deep regret over Ogungbe’s decision to end his life instead of seeking support from friends. The friend emphasized the importance of open communication during challenging times, highlighting the significance of communal living and friendship.
“The issue of suicide is becoming alarming. Sola made a grave mistake by taking his own life due to debt. If he had confided in his friends, perhaps someone could have come to his aid,” the friend remarked.
The body of the deceased has been transported to his hometown in Omu-Aran, Kwara State, for burial. This unfortunate incident serves as a somber reminder of the growing concerns surrounding suicide and emphasizes the importance of seeking help and support in times of distress.
