Osun State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Kehinde Adesogba Adekusibe for allegedly threatening the lives of Igbos residing in the South West, also known as Yoruba land.
On May 18, 2023, Kehinde Adekusibe used his Twitter handle to call for the killing of individuals from the southeastern region residing in Yoruba land.
He tweeted “Let’s kill all the Igbos. Let’s flush them out of Yoruba lands. I hate these people with a passion. They are violent people. They are worst. They hate us. Let’s hate them without holding back”.
In a statement on Friday, June 16, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Opalola Yemisi Olawoyin said his action was considered a violation of the social media policy on hate speech.
Olawoyin said Kahinde confessed to the crime after he was arrested on Thursday, adding that the suspect would be charged in court after the investigation is completed.
The statement reads, “The Osun Police Command has arrested one Kehinde Adesogba Adekusibe ‘m’ 28years who violated the social media policy on hate speech.
“It could be recalled that, on 18th May, 2023, the suspect, Kehinde Adekusibe, on his Twitter handle, tweeted “Let’s kill all the Igbos. Let’s flush them out of Yoruba lands. I hate these people with a passion. They are violent people. They are worst. They hate us. Let’s hate them without holding back”.
“Immediately the police command received the report, police detectives from the cybercrime section at SCID Osogbo swung into action and through intelligence-led investigation, the suspect was arrested at Ilesa, where he hibernated.
“The suspect has confessed to the crime and he will be charged to court after the completion of investigation”.
