Yusuf Aliyu-Umar emerged as the new Speaker of the Kogi House of Assembly, following a unanimous vote by the lawmakers.
Yusuf Aliyu-Umar emerged as the new Speaker on Tuesday, June 5, after he was nominated by Hon. Rin Ebama-Shehu, representing Lokoja I State Constituency, and seconded by Hon. Suleiman Abdulrasaq, representative of Okene 1 State Constituency.
Rt Hon Paul Enema, from Dekina/Okura constituency, was also elected as the Deputy Speaker.
After accepting their nominations and elections, the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker took their oaths of allegiance and membership, administered by the Clerk of the house, Alhaji Ahmed Sule-Chogudo.
In his acceptance speech, Yusuf Aliyu-Umar expressed gratitude to God and his fellow lawmakers for entrusting him with the responsibility of serving as Speaker. He pledged to work collaboratively with other branches of government to propel Kogi to greater heights.
Prior to the election, the Clerk read Governor Yahaya Bello’s letter of proclamation, citing the relevant section of the 1999 Constitution as amended, which marked the inauguration of the state’s 8th assembly.
