The Super Falcons of Nigeria on Thursday morning humbled Australia 3-2 in a Group B game at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
The Falcons came from a goal down to beat the co-host nation.
Australia’s Emily Van Egmond scored first after she converted Caitlin Foord’s pass.
However, soon afterward, the Super Falcons equalised soon afterwards with Uchenna Kanu’s calm finish, before Osinachi Ohale’s header made it 2-1.
Asisat Oshoala scored after a mix-up between Australia’s Alanna Kennedy and Mackenzie Arnold and Nigeria held on, despite Kennedy scoring late on.
This win places the Falcons on top of Group, level with Canada on four points, while Australia is a point behind both before the last matches in the section on Monday.
The Super Falcons will play the Republic of Ireland in their third match in Group B in Brisbane.

Australia faces Canada in Melbourne and would need a victory to guarantee a place in the knockout stages.
