Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested a 20-year-old woman, Blessing Ben, accused of killing and dumping the body of her newborn in a dustbin.
Blessing was apprehended alongside her boyfriend, Luka Illiyasu, and they are being grilled by the command.
The lady, reports said on Friday, was impregnated by Luka. The duo has been dating for about two years.
Blessing, who resides in Jambutu, within the same Yola North LGA as Luka, was delivered of her baby last Saturday, July 8.
She allegedly killed the infant and dumped the remains in a dustbin in their compound.
She has however denied killing the baby, insisting that she delivered the baby on her own and the baby came out lifeless, giving her no option but to throw the lifeless child into a dustbin.
Spokesman of the police command, Suleiman Nguroje, said the woman claimed that she has been living with her aunt and that even her aunt did not know that she was pregnant for nine months until she gave birth.
She narrated that her aunt was out of town at the time she was delivered of the baby, saying that when she discovered that she gave birth to a dead baby, she kept the corpse for two days after which she dumped the remains inside a dustbin.
According to Nguroje, the police would get the full story as both Blessing and her boyfriend were in police custody and were still being investigated.
This comes a few days after the police in Lagos rescued a day-old baby from a septic tank in the Gowon Estate area of the state.
Similarly, Kanyi Daily reported that four weeks ago, the command rescued a baby girl from under a parked bus in the Ketu area of the state.
The rescue of the baby followed an alert raised by a resident who heard her cry from under a bus at about 4:30 am on June 14.
