A 21-year-old Nigerian model, Cynthia Chioma Atuonah, has been exonerated after she was accused of allegedly defrauding her 50-year-old German lover of $220,000.
KanyiDaily recalls that in April 2023, Atuonah Cynthia Chioma was arrested for allegedly fraudulently converting, stealing, and obtaining the sum of $220,000 by false pretense from the German citizen.
The Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos, alleged that Chioma lured the victim to Nigeria after meeting him on Instagram by allegedly feigning romantic intentions toward him and promising to marry him.
Police said Chioma allegedly convinced the victim to sell the property he owned in Germany and forward proceeds of the sale, together with his pension and life savings, to her domiciliary account in Nigeria.
After the money was sent, a part of the proceeds was to be used to buy a house in Nigeria, where they would both live as husband and wife, and the other part was to be used in establishing a joint business outfit as indicated in the bank transfer narration.
Atuonah had, in her statement, admitted that the German national did transfer $220,000 to her account, and that part of the proceeds was used to buy a two-bedroom terrace apartment at Zara Estate, Ikota Villa, Lekki Phase II.
Atuonah Cynthia Chioma’s Court Case Dropped
However, in a video shared via social media on Monday, July 3, the German man said Chioma is not a fraudster and he requests the retraction of such claims from the public domain.
The German national, who also revealed that the fraud case has been dropped in court, conveyed his well wishes for Chioma and expressed hope for maintaining their friendship.
“I make this video to debunk the information which was circulated about my girlfriend, Cynthia Chioma Atuonah, the 21-year-old model,” the man said in the video.
“This case was dropped at the court, so she is not a fraudster at the court, and I want to inform the public that the old information should be taken away, and that everybody should listen to this video, that she should be a successful model, and I hope she will give me a chance to be her friend again.”
