Many people were trapped under debris after a four-storey building at Life Camp, Jabi area of the FCT, Abuja collapsed on Monday evening.
The collapse of the building took place around 4:00 pm while construction workers were carrying out their work.
The building, it was gathered, was intended for hotel accommodation.
The building gave way unexpectedly, trapping several workers who were on-site at the time of the collapse.
It was also gathered that the building collapsed during casting shortly after the site engineer left the site.
According to eyewitness accounts, the building collapse was a result of the use of substandard materials.
Rescue operations are reportedly underway.
The rescue team, comprising officials from FCT Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Nigerian police, are on the ground.
