Oba Abraham Bankole, a traditional ruler from the Onibuku community in Ado/Odo-Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, has lost his life in a heart-wrenching accident.
Ther Ogun monarch died in a tragic accident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon along the Idi-Iroko expressway, near Winners Chapel in Sango-Ota.
It was gathered that the accident happened when a truck loaded with liquor, bearing registration number EPE 252 XF, collided with a commercial tricycle, commonly known as Keke Napep, as the monarch was alighting from it.
According to an eyewitness, the impact of the truck hitting the tricycle from behind caused Oba Bankole to fall while attempting to escape. Tragically, he was fatally struck by the same truck.
The spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident, did not disclose the identity of the deceased.
Akinbiyi stated, “Yes, it is true. There was an accident in the area today and it recorded a casualty.”
He further mentioned that the monarch’s remains had been taken to the Ota General Hospital morgue, and the truck had been removed from the road with the help of the police.
Akinbiyi said, “Corps Commander and Chief Executive Officer of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency commiserates with the Kabiyesi’s family and entire inhabitants of the community.”
A first-class Oba in Ogun West, who confirmed the incident to newsmen expressed sadness over why the monarch decided to commute in a tricycle instead of a personal car.
There are speculations that Oba Abraham Bankole might have parked his car and opted for a tricycle due to the hike in the pump price of petrol.
