In a show of shame, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and officials of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) clashed on Tuesday morning at the Federal High Court in Lagos over custody of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Emefiele was on Tuesday, arraigned before the court where he faced two charges related to the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He was arraigned after spending over six weeks in detention following his arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS).
His counsel had repeatedly challenged the prolonged detention, and on July 13, the DSS finally yielded to pressure and announced that Emefiele would be charged in court.
The clash between the two agencies continued for several minutes before the DSS operatives eventually backed down and allowed the NCS to take custody of Emefiele.
