Several persons have been feared killed as a two-storey building located in the Garki area of Abuja collapsed in the early hours of Thursday.

The building, reports say, collapsed during a heavy downpour in the early hours of Thursday.

According to a Facebook post by a former aide to the immediate past Minister of the FCT, Ikharo Attah, 37 persons have been rescued alive from the collapse.

He wrote, “Two-storey Plaza collapsed in Abuja at Lagos Street, Garki village area of Garki District

So far 37 persons have so far been evacuated to Hospital, Two ‘Fatally injured’. Others are reportedly still trapped

“Rescue team and others are on ground. Rescue operations on but slowly due to ongoing rain.

“They are making frantic efforts at getting an excavator to remove people from the rubble.”

The collapsed building comes a month after a four-storey building at Life Camp, Jabi area of the FCT, Abuja collapsed.

Kanyi Daily recalls that many people were trapped under the debris of the collapsed building which happened on July 3.

The collapse of the building took place around 4:00 p.m. while construction workers were carrying out their work.

The building, it was gathered, was intended for hotel accommodation.

The building gave way unexpectedly, trapping several workers who were on-site at the time of the collapse.
