The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has ordered the immediate demolition of Dominion and EAN hangars at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Two (MMIA 2) in Lagos.
Festus Keyamo, who gave the order on Thursday during a tour of the airport facilities, said the demolition was necessary to pave way for the expansion of the airport.
The Minister also set a deadline of October 1st for the relocation from the old terminal at the International Airport to the New Terminal.
Keyamo is currently in Lagos on his inaugural official visit and has been conducting assessments of various facilities within both the Local and International Airports, as well as surrounding areas.
Since assuming office on August 21st, there has been growing concern regarding the significant challenges he faces in revitalizing the Aviation Sector.
During his inspection of facilities at MMA2, the Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of certain infrastructures and raised questions about the Federal Airport’s Authority of Nigeria’s strategies for coordinating and overseeing the utilization of available resources.
Keyamo gave strong opinions on Private-sector driven initiatives in the aviation industry, proposing that some of the spaces within MMA2 could potentially be allocated for concessions in order to boost revenue generation.
The minister also expressed dismay about the unkempt environment at the airport. He gave various orders for the area to be kept clean.
KanyiDaily had recently reported how the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) nabbed 21 persons including touts, illegal foreign exchange dealers, hawkers, and scavengers at the Lagos Airport.
