Nigerians on social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter) are reacting to pictures and videos showing the suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele in what appears like he shed tears in court on Thursday.
In the videos and pictures on social media, Emefiele shed tears after the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory adjourned his arraignment to August 23, 2023.
The case was stalled due to the absence of another defendant, Sa’adatu Yaro, in a corruption and conspiracy case brought against them by the Federal government.
Emefiele was seen weeping after the adjournment while being consoled by some of his lawyers.
Reports say Emefiele, Yaro, and a firm, known as April 1616 Investment Ltd, were accused of engaging in conspiracy and procurement fraud, among others.
The former apex bank boss is also accused of conferring corrupt advantages on his associates, including Yaro, said to be a Director in April 1616 to the tune of N6.9 billion.
The accused were taken before the vacation judge, Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.
Reacting to the pictures and videos of Emefiele, Nigerians on their various X handles said the ex-CBN governor deserved the “pain” he is going through.
Below are some of the reactions:

“I feel for this Man. Just suffering alone after he sheepishly did the bidding of his master. Now his master has abandoned him. Buhari used Emefiele and ran away. If Emefiele is arrested why is Buhari still walking freely?”

Emefiele was brought to court by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS). After the proceedings, Emefiele was returned to the custody of the DSS.
Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State on Thursday, allowed the Federal Government to withdraw the charge of “illegal possession of firearm” instituted against Emefiele.
