A 33-year-old suspected notorious criminal, Owonikoko Akeem arrested by the Ogun State Police Command has fingered a police Inspector as his gun supplier.
Akeem is said to have been terrorising the Obalende area of the state.
This was contained in a statement command’s Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola.
The statement said the suspect was nabbed along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway around 12 am in an operation led by Omosanyi Adeniyi, area commander, Ijebu Ode.
According to the statement, Akeem was caught in possession of arms and ammunition.
Also, Some hard drugs and diabolical items were found during a search of his residence.
The police image maker said upon arrest and interrogation, Akeem indicted an Inspector of police he simply identified as Ola.
“Akeem was sighted in a Toyota Camry driving inward Ijebu Ode from Ososa. As soon as he sighted the police while trying to negotiate the Ijebu Ode highway, he diverted into a close,” Odutola said.
“The police chased after him, but all the occupants scampered into the bus. The ACP divided the team into a cardinal search during which, a disguised man in VGN uniform who was the mastermind of several nefarious crimes, attempted to outsmart the policemen, but he was arrested.
“Searching the vehicle he earlier abandoned, a black cellophane bag containing 32 expended cartridges, 78 live cartridges, a locally fabricated short gun.
“A search warrant was also executed at his residence. Another Magnum Pump action riffle, 1 double barrel short gun, 1 locally fabricated double barrel pistol, Stunt Pistol Chocker, an unregistered silver colour Toyota Camry, green colour Toyota Sienna Bus KNN 58 TD OGUN, a liquid chemical, a black beret with insignia of Aiye Confraternity, cannabis, hard drugs, ATM card, power bank, 2 wristwatches, 2 cell phones, poisonous charm.
“He has made a confessional statement which fingered an inspector of police he simply named Ola who Akeem said procured the guns.”
The State Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Mustapha, the statement added, has charged the operatives to go after the remaining suspects.

Recall that Tchiani’s gang overthrew President Mohamed Bazoum on July 26, and his regime has since shunned several peaceful overtures.
