The single game on matchday one of the 2023-24 season will be the Nigeria Professional Football League opener in Ibadan.
Shooting stars will square off against Plateau United at Ibadan’s Lekan Salami Stadium.
The NPFL’s chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, stated that the decision is consistent with the precedent set last season.
He went on to say that the choice was forced by the Super Eagles’ match on Sunday, September 10, in Uyo.

“Recall that Akwa United and Bendel Insurance met on the opening day of last season in Uyo.” The remaining nine games were played the following weekend, and that is one of the traditions that we are bringing into the new league era,” he said.
The new NPFL season begins on September 9.
