Lagos Annex, Force Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2, Alagbon, has denied arresting music promoter, Sam Larry and singer Naira Marley.
Recent rumors circulating online suggested that the police arrested Sam Larry and Naira Marley for questioning in connection with the unfortunate death of the late singer, Mohbad.
KanyiDaily recalls that Mohbad died under controversial circumstances on September 12, and was buried the following day in Ikorodu in accordance with Islamic customs.
Mohbad’s bereaved wife, Omowunmi revealed that the late singer who had issues with Naira Marley lived in constant fear and struggled until his death.
Following Mohbad’s death, netizens claimed that Naira Marley had allegedly instigated Sam Larry and others to intimidate and harass the deceased after he exited Marlians Records.
The controversy escalated after the emergence of old videos showing the moment Sam Larry was harassing and bullying Mohbad on multiple occasions before his death.
In one of the videos, Mohbad could be seen sitting in a wheelchair alongside fellow artist Zlatan Ibile when Sam Larry stormed the scene and physically assaulted him before Zlatan intervened to defuse the situation.
The videos triggered outrage among Nigerians on social media, leading to a wave of criticism directed at Naira Marley and Sam Larry on their respective Instagram pages.
The backlash was so intense that Sam Larry opted to deactivate his Instagram account to escape the cyberattacks, while Naira Marley switched to his Snapchat.
The reported arrests of Naira Marley and Sam Larry were related to the physical assault that Mohbad endured while he was alive, rather than his passing.
However, the spokesperson for the Lagos Annex of the FCID, Oluniyi Ogundeyi dispelled the rumors in an exclusive telephone interview with The Punch on Thursday night.
Ogundeyi categorically stated, “The report is false; it is a lie; no one has been arrested. The police did not arrest Naira Marley or Sam Larry.”
KanyiDaily recalls that a document emerged on Thursday, wherein Mohbad reported a case of alleged threat to life, malicious damage, assault, and oppression against Sam Larry and others, in a petition to the police, three months before his death.
