A middle-aged man, identified as Bem Matthew, has been apprehended for allegedly stabbing his pregnant wife to death.
A source from the area disclosed that the couple had a minor disagreement yesterday morning, during which the man unexpectedly grabbed a knife and stabbed his pregnant wife in the chest at Korinya in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State.
He said: “We learned that the couple had a minor disagreement this morning and the man pulled a knife and killed his pregnant wife.
“The incident almost sparked protest in the town but for the quick intervention of the elders of the community who stopped the youths from lynching him in a jungle justice.
“Nobody has been able to hear from the man why he killed the woman because he has not been able to explain to anybody why he did it.
“But the Police have taken him away for questioning and investigation after he was rescued from the youths who wanted him to have a taste of what he did to the woman.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Catherine Anene who confirmed the incident said the police had commenced an investigation into the matter.
She said, “The incident is true, the suspect is in custody for investigation but I’m still waiting for details.”
