Michael Jordan’s $3 billion fortune has earned him a spot on the Forbes 400, making him the first professional athlete to join the ranks of the richest Americans, according to Forbes magazine.
Jordan, a millionaire since 2014, jumped to the Forbes 400 list this year after selling the Charlotte Hornets for $3 billion in August. The former NBA player had been the team’s principal owner since 2010, when he paid $275 million for the franchise.

Jordan barely made the cut, with Forbes estimating that an individual would require $2.9 billion to be included among the nation’s wealthiest people this year.
Jordan, 60, is one of just three professional sportsmen, along with LeBron James and Tiger Woods, to amass fortune worth more than $1 billion, according to Forbes.
