Afro Nation, the world’s largest Afrobeats festival, has cancelled their much-anticipated concert in Nigeria.
Afro Nation is a yearly event that celebrates Africans in the diaspora and is widely regarded as one of the world’s largest concerts.
The Afro Nation festival debuted in Portugal four years ago.
Kanyidaily recalls that the organisers announced the date for its first-ever concert in Nigeria in September.
The concert was supposed to take place at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos State.

The festival, however, has been cancelled, according to a statement issued by Smade, co-founder of Afro Nation.
“Unfortunately, the Afro Nation Nigeria festival in Lagos will no longer take place,” the statement said in part. We hold ourselves to extremely high standards as event organisers, and it has become clear to us that it is currently not possible to deliver a show of the quality that Nigeria deserves in December 2023.
“We’ve performed incredible shows in Portugal, Ghana, and Puerto Rico.” We love Miami and Detroit, but Nigeria holds a special place in our hearts, and we are devastated that we will not be able to celebrate with you this year.
“Please be assured that we are 188% committed to producing an Afro Nation show in Lagos that we can all be proud of.”
“To those who have purchased tickets, We will refund all tickets including booking fees. Ticket buyers do not need to do anything but will receive an email with information outlining the refund process.”
