Several goods and property worth millions of naira were consumed in a devastating late-night fire that swept through the well-known Ladipo Plank Market in Amukoko, situated on Iganmu Road, Orile, Lagos State.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, confirmed that fortunately, there were no reports of any loss of life in the incident.
He said the agency received emergency calls and found the plank market gutted by fire upon arrival.
According to Oke-Osanyitolu, “The agency responded to distress calls and arrived at the above scene of the incident to discover that the plank market was being gutted by fire.
“Fortunately, there is no loss of life. However, goods and property yet to be enumerated have been destroyed due to the inferno.”
Although the cause of the fire remains uncertain, eyewitnesses reported that it began around 12:30 a.m. in the main market area.
LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire Service, and the Federal Fire Service as of 6 a.m. were still working tirelessly to extinguish the intense fire, with ongoing rescue operations.
Kanyi Daily recalls that the Federal Special Anti- robbery Squad FSARS policemen had arrested three men who specialize in breaking into shops at the Mushin and Ladipo Auto Spare parts market in Lagos.
