Lagos State Police Command has released the controversial rapper, Azeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley, and his associate, Balogun Samson, also recognized as Sammy Larry.
The duo were released on Friday, November 17, after meeting their bail conditions, as confirmed by Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, in a brief statement.
Hundeyin wrote: “Naira Marley and Sammy Larry, having met their bail conditions, have been released.”
The arrest of Naira Marley and Sammy Larry was connected to an investigation into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, who died under controversial circumstances on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
Hundeyin announced the release in the afternoon, stressing that Naira Marley and Sammy Larry had met the conditions set by a Lagos State Magistrates’ Court.
The court had granted them bail on Monday, November 6, with a requirement of a N20 million bond and three responsible sureties.
As part of the stipulated bail terms, the defendants were mandated to surrender their passports and make weekly appearances at the State Criminal Investigation Department located in Panti, Yaba, Lagos.
KanyiDaily recalls that Naira Marley and Sam Larry were apprehended upon their return to Nigeria, allegedly connected to Mohbad’s controversial death.
Before they were granted bail, Naira Marley and Sam Larry filed a N40m lawsuit against Lagos State magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun and the police over their detention.
