Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen was honored as the African Men’s Footballer of the Year, while Asisat Oshoala claimed the top prize in the women’s category.
Nigeria achieved an unprecedented milestone by sweeping both the Men’s and Women’s CAF Player-of-the-Year Awards, making them the first nation ever to accomplish this remarkable feat in the same year.
Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala etched their names in history as the King and Queen of African football during the award ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday night.
The celebration continued with the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s national women’s team, being crowned the best in Africa for the year.
Chiamaka Nnadozie, the Super Falcons’ goalkeeper, also received the Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Despite her outstanding performance, it was surprising to see Nnadozie, the continent’s best goalkeeper, missing from the prestigious Women’s Africa XI team.
Meanwhile, three Super Falcons players – Michelle Alozie, Ohale Osinachi, and Oshoala – were recognized in the lineup.
Victor Osimhen, showcasing his impressive season and impact on the continent, stood as the sole representative for Nigeria in the Men’s Africa XI team.
Host Morocco also had an outstanding night, securing victories in five categories, including the national team of the year for men, in recognition of their unforgettable performance at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
