Nigerian music star, Flavour N’abania has been criticizd for bowing before the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi during a wedding reception.
Flavour, who recently unveiled his latest album, ‘African Heritage,’ delivered a performance that captivated a distinguished audience, including notable figures such as Vice President Kashim Shettima, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and the renowned Cubana Chief Priest.
However, it was a specific moment in the video capturing Flavour’s bow before the Ooni of Ife and another prominent Northern leader that ignited a wave of reactions among certain netizens.
Expressing their discontent in the comment section on Instagram, some users voiced their disapproval of Flavour’s gesture, arguing that it goes against the traditional norms of Igbo men.
One commenter, @bribe_us, expressed, “Igbo man no dey bow for anybody but his Chi,” emphasizing the customary reluctance of Igbo men to bow to their fellow men.
Another user, Imensiplant, addressed Flavour directly, stating, “Flavor, you are Igbo, you don’t prostrate for anyone no matter their rank.”
Meanwhile, uwashuga suggested an alternative approach, advising “Flavour next time use two hands to shake him but please we don’t kneel down for no man except God.”
The incident has sparked a debate on cultural practices and expectations, highlighting the diversity of traditions within Nigeria and the varying interpretations of respect across different regions.
