Popular comedian, Atunyota Akpobome, better known as Alibaba, claims that his young colleague, Mark Angel, is among the top-earning comedians in Nigeria.
During an interview on the Honest Bunch podcast with OAP Nedu, Alibaba claims that Mark Angel earns up to $300,000 per month.
He attributed a significant portion of the comedian’s wealth to revenues generated from content and advertisements on social media platforms like YouTube and Facebook.
The comedian emphasized that those investing in the services provided by content creators such as Mark Angel are well aware of the value they receive.
He expressed concern about the common misconception that attributes the success of content creators to having a wealthy spouse or family member, undermining the hard work these individuals put into their craft.
Reflecting on his journey to financial success, Alibaba reminisced about earning his first million in 1995 when he was paid N1.6 million for an alcohol brand tour.
He highlighted the tendency for people to underestimate the financial achievements of people like Mark Angel based on superficial judgments, overlooking the intricate factors that contribute to their substantial earnings.
“You know some people still don’t believe that Mark Angel is one of the richest comedians, until somebody then hears how much YouTube, Faceebook pay him every month.
“You will hear somebody [Mark] is making close to 300,000 dollars every month and you are like ‘is it not that guy that wears big knicker.
“If he were dating a banker or if he was dating a politician or somebody who works in an oil and gas company, they will be like ‘it is the oil and gas money. because they do not know the intricate factor that drives how much money the person makes,” he said.
KanyiDaily recalls that Alibaba also disclosed that his father harbored resentment for ten years because he chose a career in comedy instead of becoming a lawyer.
